DAYTONA BEACH -- Two officers were injured and their patrol cars severely damaged early Sunday while pursuing a wanted Daytona Beach man in a chase that briefly reached speeds of about 100 mph, police said.

Dominique J. Aaron, 24, was arrested on more than 15 charges, including aggravated battery on law enforcement officers, aggravated fleeing and eluding, six charges of hit and run with property damage, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana.

Aaron was being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail later Sunday with no bail allowed.

Daytona Beach Police Officers Luiz Gonzalez and Thomas Monaco were treated and released after the chase at Halifax Health Medical Center, reports show. Gonzalez had neck, back and leg injuries and Monaco had neck, back and hip injuries.

According to police, the chase lasted less than 10 minutes and began about 2 a.m. at the Novawood Apartments off Nova Road. Gonzalez was patrolling the apartment complex when she noticed Aaron sitting in his white Ford Mustang. She turned her spotlight on the car. Aaron took off in his vehicle at a high rate of speed, police said, just missing the front of her patrol car, but hitting a fire hydrant, temporarily disabling the Mustang.

Officer Gonzalez exited her vehicle and observed Aaron leaving the Mustang. She pulled her Taser stunning device and ordered him to the ground, reports show, but he refused, yelling an obscenity at her and then getting back into his car. Aaron put his car in reverse at a high rate of speed and rammed into the officer's driver's side door, knocking it forward and pinning Gonzalez between the two vehicles. He then took off out of the complex and Gonzalez was able to call for help.

Three officers were at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and South Nova Road and saw Aaron speeding as he approached the intersection. The officers began a pursuit authorized by a sergeant, according to a report. Police said Aaron ended up crashing into a wooden light pole and chain link fence on Caroline Street. One of the officers got out of the patrol car and ordered Aaron out of the car, but he again put the vehicle in reverse at a high rate of speed, this time colliding with Officer Monaco's car.

When Aaron sped away again, the officers pursued on Caroline Street with speeds reaching about 100 mph, according to reports. Aaron ran several stop signs during the chase and eventually ended up on Jefferson Street, where he crashed into the chain-link fence. Officer Monaco struck a palm tree, leaving his vehicle disabled.

After a foot chase, another officer grabbed Aaron by pulling his Taser and ordering him to the ground. Marijuana was found in a shirt police said was discarded by Aaron, and crack cocaine was found in the vehicle. Aaron was wanted on three outstanding warrants and court records show he has served jail and prison time for drugs, fleeing police and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Officer Gonzalez's vehicle suffered extensive damage, police said, and Officer Monaco's car was considered probably beyond repair.

Someone needs to go to jail for a long time. Best wishes to the injured officers, hope they don't have any lasting injuries!

I thought that volusia county had a no chase law for over a certain speed for reasons exactly like this one.

Radios are much faster and don't put you in the hospital-when used properly

For simple traffic stops, yes, but as soon as he struck the officer with his car it became assault on an officer and possible attempted murder. My guess is that for violent offenses like this, the general feeling is it's best to get the guy off the street before he kills someone.

Which is probably why the sergeant approved the pursuit.

Good call

1)there is no such thing as a "no chase law"
2)this is exactly the type of case when chase should be allowed! he intentionally rammed his car into another car pinning someone between the two... (thats also known as attempted murder!!!!)
3)no matter how fast radio signals are if there is no one ahead of him because the citizens of this state wanted to save a few bucks on their taxes (and Daytona is running a 10 zone shift with 3-4 people as a result) then you will not and can not set up a perimeter
4)even when a perimeter is set up it is not a 100% catch the bad guy scenario

Glad they got him, sounds like a bad dude that was not afraid to injure or kill to get his way and kudos to the Daytona PD for not being afraid to chase him. I think more and more of this type of almost, "diabolical" behavior is going to be witnessed as our nation slides down the slope of moral decline. There is a 17 volume set about the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, it's author brings up 5 key factors that tumbled the mighty over the edge. 1.An increase in the Collapse of traditional families 2. A craze for pleasure 3.The building of gigantic armaments while the enemy was within 4.An increase in violence 5.The decline of religion and values. I think we are at a pivotal time in our Nation's development where we can give of our time and selves to make a difference in our families and country. Or we can just pursue pleasure and whine about our circumstances, being impatient and petty while letting others write our laws, and end up leaving our kids the inheritance of a dangerous, impotent, empty shell of what these United States, used to be.

+1 Chap

Very glad they caught this jerk. But this is what we will begin to see more and more of as our nation does lose it's since of morals and values. Definitely something I fear for my son. People want to give their kids more and more options and as long as they're ok with something its not a problem. When in fact they are KIDS and need to be "brought up in the direction that they should go and when they get older they will not depart from it". This guy I'm sure was lacking that training.
