Anyone know how to or know a good company to use that can fix this mess?

Site's I'm finding say this is not a good idea to do if I don't know what i'm doing.

I have never done it personally, but my maintenance guys at work have to replace springs on the storage doors frequently. They say its a pain in the ass and sometimes dangerous.

I think I used these guys at my rental house when the garage door was on the fritz.

It's not horribly hard to do with two guys, but I don't know where you'd buy a spring at and if you've never done it before it can be a pain. Especially if you wind it the wrong way.

I've never had a broken spring, but did have one spring on my garage door detension, and had to preset the load myself. It was mostly a PITA, and admit it could be dangerous if you went about it recklessly or with disregard for the stored mechanical energy, but is doable as a home project. You just have to ask yourself if you have the time and patience or if you think it would be worthwhile to pay someone else to do it for you. If I had to replace a broken spring I would probably go to Home Depot or Lowe's and see if they had a how-to book on garage door installations.

I called a company, less the $200 for them to come out today and fix it. Including spring and labor. After I would buy the spring on my own and be frustrated to all hell installing it.. this $200 sounds just fine lol. Thanks guys.

Springs can be BAD news. Call a buddy of mine. He lives in Deltona and may be able to help you at a reasonable price. Jason Laduca 386-562-3221.

I would say definately worth the money to have it done by a pro; to much risk IMO. One thing my father taught me to keep them from becoming rusty and binding up (which puts undo stress on those portions that continue to work) is to soak a rag with your used motor oil and rub it across the springs occassionally. I've been doing it for years. Just don't over do it or you'll have used motor oil dripping down on your floor, door, bike, car, dog, wife, etc.

Thanks guys, It's been fixed. A little more then what I was told over the phone but they replaced rollers, which it did also need.
