Okay lets settle this...I wanna ride and the board is getting hard to follow. We will plan to meet in Daytona at 8am on the day chosen or 7am if you want breakfast first.

Only post a reply if you are a definite for that day!! We may do two rides depending on the response.

Who is leading, Chiung, Super 3, Zeb?

Everybody post up asap so we can get a firm date settled in or plan for two rides. I hope the earlier we plan the better the turn out.

i will go both rides ...im free for any date ...i only have issue with the average speed being triple the posted limit ...i want to continue to ride for a long time to come and not be arrested.

in short ......IM SHOOK

But i guess if i want to go on leisure rides i should buy a harley.

I'll go on the 3rd. I'd like to go on the 10th too but I'm not missing the last car race I will be able to attend for the next 15 months.

I know the directions for the first 2 hours of the last ride we did.

Looks like the 10th might be easier for me, having some disc\back issues, hopefully I can get straightened out by the 10th. Went on a short ride Sun. & my back started acting up after about 35 miles, I'd never make a Sugarloaf ride like this.

I will go any day no worries here, just let me know and I think I will do denneys first.

Since I missed the last Sugarloaf ride I'm not sure how you got there. There are a number of ways to get there. Is it Sugarloaf for sure or just any where to go for a ride?

anybody ever take a ride up to st augustine takinging a1a?

Karma, The ride to St. Augustine can be nice but it is a lot of straight road. I've been on a route that takes you up AIA and back along the St. Johns.

We don't have to do Sugarloaf on the 3rd and 10th. We should mix it up. We could take a southerly route down to Cape Canaveral area with a lunch stop at Dixie Crossroads or a northerly trip to St. Augustine area with a lunch stop along A1A.

I guess it is up to whoever leads the rides.

(Standing on my soap box for a minute) One other thing everybody should remember is that we STRESS that you should ride at your own pace. NOBODY wants you to feel uncomfortable on a ride or push you to do something you don't want to do. All of the group rides I have been on have had this same rule. They have made it a point to say this and to make sure that we wait at every turn or stop for the entire group to catch up. In my experience you typically won't find any crazy stunters on these rides and you won't find drag racers either. The "fun" parts of the rides are typically held on out of the way country roads not on ISB or A1A like some groups I've seen. (Okay I'm through)

"Jackass"
11-29-2006, 12:51 PM
Good point Mike

Raven
11-29-2006, 12:58 PM
I've gone up to St.Augustine up A1A and to tell you the truth its not all that great. Just alot of straight roads and it gets tiring even if you go with a group. Am all for mixing it up but i don't like taking the highway to get to our destination. Anything with too much straight riding for long periods gets boring after a while.

"Jackass"
11-29-2006, 04:51 PM
I've got an acupuncture appt Fri afternoon, I might be ok to ride both weekends, depending on the sitter (grandma).
A1A is a nice ride if you like going in a straight line the whole time. US1 down to Titusville is a nice ride, but they're still working on the road south of SR3(Merrit Isl refuge). I guess the next poll is going to be where to ride to.
Hey Robo, did you get your undertail\tag bracket fixed yet?

There's a map that Dave posted here a while back. I reposted in onto another forum here:

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=363266

from memory - pull up google maps and follow along:

92 west to Marsh/Daugherty road north to 11

North on 11 for 1/4 mile or so, then West on Arredondo Grant rd West

North on Spring Garden to 17

North on 17 past 40 then west on Emporia Rd to 40 West (gas station)
t
40 west over the river, then veer left onto 445A/445 which heads south then west to 19 - WATCH FOR OFFROAD BIKES CROSSING 445

19 south to 42 west (gas station)

left on 450 southeast back to 19 (gas station)

19 south about 4 blocks then left at the Umatilla City Hall on Cassady street, then immediate right onto Lakeside then left onto Rose which turns into Twin Ponds Rd which then dumps you at 44A by Lake Dalhousie.

44A south until it makes a turn east at Estes Rd, go east on 44A 2 block then south on Thrill Hill Rd to 44.

44 west then south on 44B (gas station)

44B south to 441 east then south

441 south to Sadler Rd west by Lake Ola

Sadler to CR 48 southeast

CR48 to CR561 south to a 4-way intersection. Look on Google maps you'll see that 561, 455, and 561A form a rough circle. Sugarloaf is that circle. zoom in and you'll see sugraloaf mountain rd HILLY - WATCH FOR BICYCLISTS

Also see Dave's map linked above, it has his gps trail of other routes in the area.

Also - if you guys want to do St Augustine, there's

http://www.capsonthewater.com/

for lunch - very nice.

Also, dbsuperbiker showed me a great place called

http://www.theoutbackcrabshack.com/

for something more casual

And for super casual there is a bbq shack on st Augustine beach right on A1A that dbsuperbiker showed me. I think it's too small to have a website.

Id go but I gotta work at 3.

Where are these local roads that you speak of Mike?

"Jackass"
12-02-2006, 09:16 AM
I guess Robo & I are the only NSB\Edgewater "locals". I'm down in FL Shores in Edgewater so i usually go out Old Mission Rd to Glencoe Rd to 44. East on 44, jump back on Old Mission to Pioneer, around to Turnbull Bay Rd. Then usually back to Pioneer\415 & go by the Cabbage Patch, jump on Taylor Rd into Pt Orange. Then usually head to Nova down to US1, & head back to New Smyrna. It's not a bad little ride, not usually too much traffic on the back roads.

Sorry man, work Mon-Fri 8-5, & every other Sat 8-1 (that's where I am now), & the wife works nights. That's usually the ride I take on sat\sun when my mom takes the kid. I'm still thinking of heading out around 2ish today, if anyone cares.

Well Im gonna meet up next Sunday(the 10th). Im also off that Saturday. Wanna meet up then Mike?

"Jackass"
12-02-2006, 11:24 AM
I'll see if I can get away for a couple of hours next Sat. afternoon. I'm working this weekend so my mom has the kid, allowing me to ride Sun. I'm off next weekend, so i could probably head out Sat after the wife gets up, she doesn't get home till 3am on the weekends. So i have to keep our little monster quiet until she gets up. I'll give you a yell next weekend, PM me your #.

Back so early?

So who is still on for the 10th?

Raven
12-03-2006, 03:14 PM
Heres a account of what happened today. Lets see we all met up at dennys at 8am and it was foggy as hell. We ate breakfast and when we left at 9:15am it was still foggy, we almost decided not to ride but once we got to the K gas station before turning to the Deland sports complex road it started to clear up little by little. The first few miles we all took it easy as the road was wet and the fog was clearing up. Once we got to Alexandra Springs we went balls out through there again LOL. We got to Umatilla and took a good break because Bernard had to re-tighting his clutch cable again. So while we are waiting for a good 20 minutes this police car parks right behind us. We see her talking on the radio and everyone was like " :? " time to go. Sure enough another sherriff pulls up with his truck and boat and starts asking us questions about 3 bikes he picked out of our group. Sure enough some redneck in his truck also pulls up as well. So here we are getting lectured by the sherriff and him trying to accuse 3 of our riders for speeding through the last long left sweeping turn. Apparently the eye witness said he saw our riders yet kept saying there were all blue bikes. So there we were all confused at the fact that he can't tell who it was. Whats funny was that right before the cops showed 3 guys in 2 Blue yamaha R1's and a Blue Gixxer passed by the gas station. So the guys they wanted were already long gone and we told them that. Yet hes lecturing us as if we were the culprits. You could tell he really wanted to arrest us.

In either case we left the gas station and what was funny was that the "eye witness" followed us down the street before we turned off. We didn't go back the way we came, we ended up taking another road that was nice and fast. Whats funny is that no less than 30 minutes later we had another scare. Most of us were in front going about 120mph or so when after this little hill we see 2 Sheriffs parked on the side of the road. Everyone starts braking heavily. At this point i was like "" we are all fucked. We passed the cops and kept looking behind us to see if they were going to pull us over. Thankfully they didn't but up ahead was another set of cops with one of them being the bomb squad. Apparently something happened at one of the houses and thats why they were all there but at that point we all said we were done for the day. All of us left doing the speedlimit.
Overall though aside from getting harrassed from the cops and that cop scare the ride was good. Everyone went their own pace and had fun which was important. But just so you guys know i think all of you should stop heading up there for a while. The cops are catching on and they aren't liking it according to the sheriff. So you guys might want to think of another route for next sunday.

The Gixxer 1000 couldn't hang & it pissed them off, so they had to come out w\something bigger. Kindof like what Kawi has done now (ZX14).

Not sure if I'll make it Saturay. Leaving my pregnant wife with a sprained ankle on crutches today for a 4 day business trip to California. I'm not saying I'm whipped  but two days of riding without her won't go over very well. I definitely plan to be there Sunday the 10th for the ride.

Won't make Sunday's ride, gotta put up Christmas decorations. But I'll probably make the drags in Deland on Sat.

Don't let all the gray hair fool you. I'm only 37 too. I meant Old Timers as in the guys that have been browsing this site for a long time but never get out and ride. Most of the posts and riders that have shown up for the group rides in the last month just joined this site. Anyone heard anything about the drags out @ Deland airport next Sat?
I've been wanting to race the "Bird", but I don't want to go to Bithlo.

Is that tonight in Deland as in Saturday 14 August, 2010.

I saw my name on the original post but did not pay attention to the date. I thought who the hell has broken into my account....ckerr??? I have been riding with Zeb (Jon) and Super 3 (Jim) since I joined the site way back when and if any of you have ever had the pleasure of chasing either one of these guys around the backroads you know what a blast a group ride can be. We use to do group rides once a month and usually had a decent turn out of 5 to 10 riders. Regardless of the opinions, route, attitudes, food stop, leader, rain or shine, etc. we always had a great day. I miss the good old days and its too bad Jim is getting so old he can only drive in a straight line for a 1/4 mile at a time and I curse the economy for making me sell off all my toys but I would love to be able to join you guys on a group ride again someday!! Life is way too short for some of the drama we seem to go through on here but Dave built an incredible website and forum for all of us to make some great friends and riding partners so enjoy it while you can and ride safe! Hope to see you guys in Florida again someday!!

Thanks Wayne!! Come on over. A big dual sport group just had a rally here a week or so ago. They had like 120 bikes here. I was SOOOO jealous. I want to hit the trails around here on a dual sport. The roads are great and the views are just beautiful. The only problem is all the rocks and gravel that seems to be on the road at every turn would make it tough on a street bike. If you guys ever get a chance South Fork, Colorado is the ATV, Dual Sport, Trout Fishing and hiking capital of Colorado.

Hey Mike good to see you are still lurking around. My boy Jared is in Colorado as we write he went to visit his mother for a few days. And yes even though I bumped my head I do remember all the fun we used to have. Soon I hope to be back amoung the riding and having fun again. Those were good times, fast motorcycles and good friends it don't get no better than that. Hope all is well and hope to see ya' soon 8))
