View Full Version : MSF Licensing suggestions.
I've been riding a Yamaha Seca II for about 6 months and I recently moved here and started riding. I dont have a MSF license, or bike endorsement on my license? What are the penalties of this? I kind of just want to wait till im 21 (in 2 months) to take a course so I wont have to take classes.
Does anyone know of any MSF courses in DeLand?
Will they toss me in jail for no endorsement?
Ive been riding my dads Suzuki Bandit 1200S and its quite an upgrade from a Seca II. Though I dont have a registration, I just throw on another license plate from the other bike - Bad Idea? I just cant wait because that bike is way better to ride and twice as fast and he's in Michigan right now.
I really dont wanna stop riding if I need a Edorsement, I havent been pulled over yet, once but the officer just thought i had no glasses on.
I also sometimes dont wear a helmet though 90% of the time I do now to be safe, Is it a toss in jail if im 20 and wearing shades?
I am scared of jail obviously, been there once dont wanna go back. Id appreciate any feed back =)

if your that scared if jail it sounds like it would be worth the $250 to take the class. If you dont have a licence they dont toss you in the slammer they tow your bike and hit you with tickets. might as well just get your licence seems like a lot less trouble than all that ticket crap
Out of state drivers licence and no endorsment. They may not arrest you but you won't get a legal Fla. licence for quite sometime.
Swapped tag on dads bandit, that is now arrestable.Used to be no big deal on a bike because you do not HAVE to insure a bike. Law changed now you can go to jail. They will impound the bike no matter what.
Not wearing the helmet? Just plain STUPID! Not to mention if you don't have the insurance coverage to ride with out it you will get in trouble.
From the questions you asked and what you have stated you are doing, I say YES you should take the MSF class. Park the bike untill you do.
Can anyone say "Organ donor"
experianced or not the MSF course was one of the best thing i ever paid for in my opinion

Why wait until 21 ?
Get pulled under 21 without a lid and no license wouldn't be a good thing. There are a couple lawyers and officers here and I don't need to hear from them to know that.
Doesn't seem to be worth the risk, but when I was 21 I thought I could get away with anything too.
Okay So I scrap the Bandit riding for now..
is a MSF required? (I will end up taking it, but not for a few months)
Can I ride the Seca II, everything is legal on it as far bike?
If I dont wear a helmet and under 21 what kind of treatment is that?
(I do wear a helmet the majority of the time, unless I go a mile up the road)
When the bandit has a plate for it and insured can I ride it then?
Thanks
-Jesse
What do you mean by this? They will penalize me for out of state license?
If I had a Michigan Endorsement would it be okay?
Also, I had one little spill at 20mph when a kid ran in the road and it was
a slow speed but it cut me up pretty bad, my biker jacket saved my arms
and back, and that kinda scared me so im not a very intense rider as I
was 6 months ago.

You can ride in Florida with an out of state license with the proper endorsement for your state. This is only of you are still a resident of that state. If you are a Florida resident you need to get a Florida license.
If you have a Michigan license you don't need to do anything other than change it for a Florida one (and pay the fee).
Click this to see that info.

Everything you want to know about a Florida Driver's License is here:
http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/html/dlnew.html
Florida Helmet Law:
Anyone under 16 years of age must wear a Department approved motorcycle helmet if riding as a passenger on a motorcycle, moped, motor-driven cycle, scooter or an electric helper-motor bicycle.
A person does not need to wear a helmet while operating or riding upon a moped, scooter or other two or three-wheel motor vehicle 50cc or less, if at least 16 years of age.
Anyone at least 16 years of age but less than 21 years of age must wear a Department approved helmet when operating or riding upon a motorcycle. (A motorcycle is defined as having more than 50 cc)
Persons at least 21 years of age may ride a motorcycle without a helmet if they can show proof of medical (health) insurance coverage (Motorcycle medical policy card or other forms of health insurance coverage, such as employee group or private health insurance cards) in the amounts of at least $10,000.00 that will pay for their injuries in a crash.
Average cost for 1 day in intensive care......$10,000.00
Average time in intensive care if you survive a motorcycle accident......10 days.
You should think hard before you go out without a helmet and before you decide not to take a riding course.

I happen to know a few police officers and Deputies, they say you can go to jail for no endorsement, you can go to jail for swapping tags and you can get some hefty citations for the rest of the crap you are doing, minimum fine for one citation in FL is like $80.00 for NON MOVING violations. P.S. if you are doing more than one of these things at once as you say you are, 99% chance you WILL go to jail and get your bike towed(bike tow costs more than MSF course) and only registered owner can pick up bike so add on storage fees till your dad gets back in town
Helmet 180-500
MSF Course 185
Being Bubbas bitch in the slammer.....PRICELESS....
In all seriousness, the course is a lot cheaper than just one of the fines you would probably face, in addition to the education factor of it, and the insurance break some companies give just for taking the course..

In case you couldn't tell, squids are frowned on here... if you wanna play with us, you have to play by the rules. It's for your safety. I've seen first hand what a bad accident a friend was in can do to your emotional state of mind... you being a "god" on your bike and getting hurt will hurt everyone in your life... think about that for a while. I don't think your father will want to spend every waking second of the 3 months or so you'll be in the hospital worrying himself physically sick about you. Don't be a dumbass... take the class and wear your gear.
