View Full Version : Tire Size
On my 89 KATANA 600 I have a 150/70-17 rear tire wanted to know if a 160/60-17 would it fit and is it SAFE ?
Not sure how wide a 600 Kat rear wheel is but, this is the basic effect. A 160 being a wider tire, will have a taller arch (read from the left to right edge of the tread contact patch) than a 150 series tire. It will not have a horrible effect on the handling of your bike, but it will change it some. If you go to a 160 (which many Kat owners do) you will notice the change at the turn in at a corner, but no it will not be dangerous. Z

don't know about the older kats but on the 98+ kats that tire size fits.... 98+ have a 150/70 in the rear and most people put a 160/60 on .....
Ok thanks guys now have yous seen any good tire sales on Dunlops, Avons, or Metzelers.
Check with Doug there at DMS,or Chad up to Two Wheel Tech. in Holly Hill. I also work saturdays at Daytona Cycle on Carswell in Holly Hill or the best shot at finding your 160 in stock would be at Cycle Goodies. If you bring him the wheel he will install the tire or send you around the corner to Daytona Cycle if the wheel is still on the bike. Dunlops,Avons, and Metzlers are great but pricey tires. Have you considered Bridgestone? They have several variants of the BT series sport tires. Depending on your riding style and the amount of mileage you ride, they have a tire to fit your needs. Please see my post on tire choices and see what everyone else is running. Z
Thanks for the info :) I'll check with doug at DMS thats where I bought the bike from or Cycle Goodies
Earl.
