.....one year ago today? I was at work when my wife called and said a plane had hit one of the twin towers. While we were on the phone she says "my God another one just hit the other tower" I could not believe at that time how horrible this was going to turn out. We all had our radios on in the shop and customers were talking about it in the show room. I called home to ask my wife if she was going to be home at lunch time and during our conversation the first tower came down. All I could do was tell everyone standing there that one of our most famous icons had just fallen down with who knows how many people in it.
I headed home at lunch time and watched the now infamous film that was shown hundreds of times. I think the hardest thing for me to do during this day was try to explain to my then 8 years old daughter what had happened and why.
Our grandparents remember where they were when they heard about Pearl Harbor. Our parents remember where they were when they were told J.F.K was gone. Our generation will never forget where we were when we watched our televisions and listened to our radios as this unfolded live in front of us.
God bless and be with the families who lost loved ones on this day. I know I for one spent extra time this morning as I have for the last year telling my wife and kids I love them and holding the hugs just a little longer each morning before going to work. You never know....

Hi Zeb and all,
I'm Jay, a fairly new member in Melbourne. Thanks for your great post. This day is very symbolic for me because on 9/11, I was still living in New York. Its still hard to believe its been one year since the tragedy occurred. This time last year I was working for a Church in Northern New York and sometime after 9am, we started getting phone calls from people telling us to turn on the TV. The rest of the day was filled with phone calls from worried people with such alarming messages. I had a woman call stating "My neice worked on the 54th floor of the North Tower. I am so scared." I had so many others asking "Is this the end of the world?" I experienced on that day people at their most vulnerable point and people actually giving thanks for their own existance. Its a day no one will ever forget but somehow, we survived it and we are better because of it. I think we have all learned not to take life for granted and to take everyday as it comes and to make the most of it. Have a safe and peace-filled day everbody. -Jay

I was in Lexington Kentucky with a friend/co worker getting ready for a lunch time presentation. We watched the whole thing on TV from minutes after the first plane hit till the towers fell.

I have been to the top of the towers many times and couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I drove home from there, it was a eerie ride. I did my best to explain it to my kids, but it's hard to do when you don't understand it yourself.
