new to this forum, and looking at the mv agusta line. i have never rode a bike. i race a 00' 1200cc sit down jetski.148 hp and 613 lbs dry. im a very aggresive person and want a top of the line bike to ride. im a 150 lbs . so im looking at a single trailing arm 430 lb cc four cylinder. f-4. 18K. I like things i dont see often. and agusta delivers that. what about some other bikes to look at? maybe some links.
I feel as a light rider and a new rider i am asking to wreck the first bike a few times till i get the hang of it but i will try n be careful. i think anything over 750 is to much weight for me to ride and have fun and wasted cc's. Im sure there is tons i dont know about buying a bike. help me out any n all opinions are welcome...thanx ...James

an mv augusta as a first bike is a BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD idea..why? since you've never ridden a bike before, you'll probaby drop the bike, ask anyone here, they'll tell ya the same thing. Parts and fairings for the augusta are VERY VERY expensive, you're lookin to spend more than 10k for a first bike?? Why not look at an older early 90's 600 such as a honda f2/f3 or a kawa zx6? Or if you want a new bike, look at a suzuki sv650, they are a half fairing twin bike which are really decent first bikes, and if you drop one of those, there arent as much fairings you'll hafta worry about replacing. You can pick up a used one of those for under 5k. They'd make a much better first bike and when you drop it you're not gonna hafta pay out the ass for replacement parts. Even on an older 600 you're not gonna have any wasted cc's. At the point you think you do, hit a track, and you'll find that you are alot slower than you think you are and find a whole new respect for your bike. If you have any more questions just lemme know, and I'll try my best to answer them. I just think an F4 is probably the WORST bike you could buy for your first

I agree with Matt...if you truly plan to ride it the way it built to, you WILL drop it, so exotic=bad for wallet. Like Matt said, an old F2/3, GSXR600, FZR, ZX-6 would be the way to go. The newer bikes are very race oriented and are pretty high strung for new riders (F4's, R6's, GSXR600's)...not a good idea.

i would like something thats not gonna end up in the shop with motor troubles so i want low miles of course. i like it wild aggresive i rode a 250 honda 2 stroke dirt bike as my first dirt bike and i never felt i was out of control. i wanted more power. so i figure something small will only leave me unhappy. but as u say its cheaper to fix it when it drops. what do u guys think about an aprilli or ducati 600 or so. still to much money to fix. maybe a 97 or up apeals to me. i really dont want a bike everyone sees everyday like a lime green ninja. so not me.... its gonna be jack rabbit starts n short high speed runs for me no race track type riding.

Jack rabbit starts and high speed runs ?? That sounds like me.

This will not surprise anyone that I would recommend a ZX6, and they're not all green. But if you've got the bucks and want a Duc that 620 is really nice but I think the ZX6, GSXR600, R6, or an F4 would outrun and outlast one for less $'s.

Hey Jim,

I agree with the others. You've been given the best advice. For the record, my zx-6r is blue, not Kawa green. You can make any bike look unique and the power IS there. Enough to hurt ya fast...leading into my second point:

Buy the best gear you can! Then get a bike with the money left over. After several "sudden stops", my D.O.T/Snell rated helmet,CE armor, boots & gloves is the only reason I am alive. Proving more important than WHAT I ride.

most reliable engine would def. be a honda, i know guys with over 50k miles on their honda's and they are still running strong...kawa's are good too..i had a 93 zx6e with 20k miles (btw, it wasn't green, it was black and blue, not all kawa's are green, they have red/orange/blue ones too <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"> )and it fired right up everyday with no troubles..aprilla doesn't make a 600 that i'm aware of, and the only 600 in ducati form is the monster 600, which if you want something flashy the monster is not it...take everyones advise and get an older 600 honda or kawa for cheap, then spend some change on a nice custom paint job and you'll be all set, have all the power you need and have something that not everyone else around town is riding on

This guy sounds like an insurance agents worst fear. Someone with NO street riding under his belt and whats seems like a lot of money to spend. The advice that should be given to this guy is to take a saftey riding school. "jack rabbit starts and short high speed runs..." It is no wonder our collective insurance rates are going up. I hope this fool lives long enough to learn how to ride. Racing a jet ski is a breeze compared to surviving out here. He even says he wants something cheap to fix, because he figures he will put it down a few times. Hope he only puts himself on the ground and not another rider.

im a fool to think i will not lay it down once or twice learning. and i suspect zeb rides 2 hr endurance jet ski races alot huh no big deal huh.. lol sure zeb. some look to help "thanx everyone" then folks some look to cause trouble.
who in there right mind gets a STREET bike to take to the grocery store or cruise to the beach for a few hours. em uncomfortable no room. why does some one get a STREET bike? to rip around and not destroy the grocery getter.... to enjoy them selves n get a lil wild. what bike is not an insurance agents worst fear? how many folks who ride end up gettin hurt??? really. and as for the good riding gear first! i suspect that is a very good idea. any web sites you suggest of maybe brands you like? this board seem a lil quiet maybe folks like zeb run off all the newbies with im a hot shot remarks.. ill have to look into the 600's. can anyone simplyfy why not a 750 or 900 other than so i dont hurt my self with toomuch go power....?

I rode street bikes for over 20 years before the first time I had trouble so I think not laying it down while learning isn't an unreal expectation. I ride with crashing as a possibility, not an expectation.

It is true that the more insured sport bikes that are crashed the more that the cost of those crashes will be passed on to the other insured. Many of us have been bit by that fact directly and would like to avoid more of it in the future. A lot of these crashes are a direct result of inexperienced riders with their new bikes all hell bent to tear up the world. This goes along with the crackdowns on all sport bikes for the actions of a few. It happens, it would be nice to say it doesn't, but it does.

I'd suggest a MSF course in as soon as possible if you do decide to get a bike. How many people get hurt while riding ? Many do. Well I have been witness to too many serious injuries and a couple deaths in the past year and I would like to see it slow down. Good riding gear will help, but it can't prevent all injuries to you or help the bike at all. Gear is usually a personal preference but Joe Rocket brand currently seems to be the best combination of cost vs quality going right now.

This board is running a little quiet, it's just getting started. Six months ago it didn't exist. I'm interested to know how you ended up here since I'm responsible for the traffic. Most of the people here ended up here through word of mouth.

I think you asked about a starter bike and that's why you heard about 600's. They are really fast, not as fast as a 7 or a nine but still fast. I have a ZX-12 and if I had to pick another bike to have in my garage it would be a ZX6. It's not all about motor and speed, me on a 600 will lose me on the 12 when it gets in the curves. Hope that helps a little.

Its a fight of power vs weight as in the jetskis. at some point its almost unmanagable either by rider or by machine. I would suspect something light and 4 cylinder would be very satisfying. and i love the quad pipes on the augusta. just not the price and avalibality of parts n service.I would certainly take pride in the bike and i want something different than everyone else has. i would like to stay in the 10 k area.
i found this forum when entering either superbike or street bike into the search and then recognized daytona as close to orlando. and it went from there. i am very active at an ultra 150 jet ski site also an ezboard forum. i will look into joe rocket and i will certainly take a look at the 600's im thinking new or one yr old low miles because i dont wanna mess with a used bike and take a chance of it being abused n not long for this world. we'll see what they have.. this is a few months from now anyway. im gonna do some looking into it as i am now, and make an educated purchase as i did with my jetski. i would of course hope that i dont lay it down my unlce was killed in a bike accident and it will maybe make me think twice about gettin to stupid when i want to. anymore opinions are welcome. if i went used, what are somethings i want to look for? assigns of abuse. other than obzious wear n tear on exterior. things the dealer wouldnt just mask to sell the bike. id hope they wouldnt do that to me but face it they want to sell the good ones and the bad ones.... thanx for your help dave maybe a local dealer you like? seminole power sports sold me my ski. i am less than impressed by there customer care n service depo...but i have heard of much worse ...Jim

Hey Jim,

If you have 10K to spend I'd go with a new one. Hell a ZX6 LIST price is $7,699. (I really like the red ones) I bought my 12 at Seminole Power Sports, I know one of the managers there. If you go back ask for Patrick, he'll know Dave in Daytona with the blue 12. He lives in here in Ormond too and I've know him for years. They will admit the service department is overrun right now. They're looking for a bigger place to move into and stretch out a little. Until then it may be business as usual in the service department there. I have a good relationship with the service guys at Daytona Fun Machines and they service skis too. I'd love to have an Ultra 150 but the budget doesn't allow for that right now, maybe some day. I've seen the board you're talking about and it's all cool stuff. Keep in touch and let us know what you decide to do.

Dave
