I'm looking for a cheap sportbike. If anyone knows of one, let me know. Is it better to buy from a dealer, or should i go through a private party. I only have $2000.00 to spend. I was thinking of maybe putting $1000 down and financing the rest. I've been looking through the Cycle Trader, but everything in my price range is around the Miami area. I'm partial to Yamaha, but I'm open to other bikes. My last bike was an 88 Katana 600, but unfortunately it was stolen back in 93.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Miami's OK. I have 2 friends that bought Cycle Trader bikes there and saved alot of mula ( they just took the pickup truck down). OTH, I can recommend Doug @ DMS Racing and/or Jim @ Pompano Pat's here in the Daytona area. You can finance the other 1,000 on the credit card at the these too. Tell em I sent ya.
Good luck !

Thanks for the info. I've been to DMS and i keep checking back. I think he moved though. Do you know where he moved to? Are you talking about The Woodman at Pompano Pats? I used to work with him. As a matter of fact i called him today. He said he's got a 93 FZR 600 that he might be able to make me a deal on. Hopefully he'll have some good news for me tomorrow. I'll be sure to tell him you sent me.

I had a 1990 FZR600 and loved it. I wish I'd kept it for a track bike. Check out fzrarchives.com.
DMS moved one parking lot south. Next to the bottle club.

doug at dms moved into the buildings on the other side of the pub/bar that he was next too...I don't believe he is going to be selling bikes anymore, just parts...I do know he's not doing work on bikes anymore as the guy he had for a mechanic is opening his own business...the place he is in now is much smaller so I don't know that he has much room left for bikes. I've bought 2 bikes from pompano pats...they are great to work with and if you really want the bike he'll find a way to finance it for you..i'd recommend them to anyone...

Ok, I found an 86 GSXR 750, They're asking $1900 obo. N.A.D.A. average retail is $1300. Is this a good bike? and is this a reasonable price? It was just repainted, no scratches, just a small crack in the windscreen. Plus it has 26000 miles on it, is that a little high? I was hoping for something a little newer, but beggars can't be choosers. I offered him $1000 cash, but he said he couldn't go that low. then i offered $1500, and he seemed interested, but that was before i check N.A.D.A..
Is it worth taking a look at?

Sounds expensive to me for that old of a bike. What do others think?

I'm going to take a look at it tonight. A couple of people i've talked to said thats not too bad a price, depending on the condition. I figure if its in decent shape and runs good I'll offer him $1300. And if he says no, then it wasn't meant to be. If i do get it maybe i'll stop by Monday night at Ritters, if thats going to be a regular thing now.

Well call me impulsive, or call me stupid, or crazy even. I bought the 86 Gixxer. It's plum ugly, it's all purple, not one sticker on it, but thats ok, it runs like a raped ape, orshould i say a raped grape, just needs a little cleaning up, but my wife always says I need to get a hobby, so this will give me something to do instead of getting online every night . Guess i can throw out all the Cycle Traders that have accumulated around here. So if you see an all purple bike running down the road try not to laugh too hard. Eventually I'll probably either get new plastic or just paint it.

At this time you can buy a new bike at the Fun Machine for no money down and $75.00 pr month. That is the way I like to go. Good Luck in you hunt. Ray

75$ a month? for what 70 months? 48 months? .. whats the final price I have to pay? That 2001 CBRXX looks mighty nice but at 10,000$ / 75$ a month = 133 months = 11.08 years! HOLY !!!!!!
